Arvino by Cantine Statti - floreal spring sensations from Calabria!

Dear Wine Lovers,

today I'd like to take you to the "tip of the boot-shaped Italian peninsula" so, welcome to Calabria, the earth of the pure and native Gaglioppo grape.

I’d like to tell you, a couple of years ago, when a friend of mine suggested me to taste a cheap wine from Calabria (like this) I was a little bit sceptical cause, unfortunately, I had a prejudice about the wine production method of that region due to some "bad" past experiences with Calabrian wines.

Well, I've learned something new: the stupid prejudices are not yet dead and the winemakers from Calabria are doing something BIG and GREAT.

Obviously, in this BLOG I can't speak only of aged and expensive celebrity wines, so, pick some money out of your pocket (about € 8) and try one of the best young and fruity wine promises of Italy:

Arvino by Cantine Statti

a Gaglioppo grape surrounding experience with a sprinkle of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Gaglioppo is an ancient Calabrian grape with a deep character that reflects the soul of the Calabrian people; this grape is famous for the "CirĂ² Rosso" wine, a traditional and historical wine that is growing up as the years go by.

Arvino is a young-talended red wine ideal also with a simple spicy appetizers (and lovely perfect for your BBQ); it's a really pleasant wine, amazing ruby red colour, delightful floral and fresh fruity bouquet, unbelievable notes of violet and with a harmonious and elegant finish on the palate.

A wine for all seasons (hot summer included) and for all occasions, one of the best quality-price ratio of Italy.

In my opinion, "the modernization" togheter with a high-quality grape (like Gaglioppo for example) could be "the key" for an international success and the Statti family, from Lamezia Terme, is achieving that goal!

... and stay tuned :)

Flaccianello della Pieve 2006 by Fontodi - the blood of Jove...

Dear Wine Lovers,

today I'm back in our adorable and unique "Chianti Classico", Tuscany, one of the most beautiful countryside in the world.

Obviusly, the name "Chianti" drifts by the "Chianti area", a sensational landscape located between the unbelivable city of Siena and Florence in the heart of Tuscany.

Everybody in the universe know Tuscany wines like "Morellino di Scansano", "Nobile di Montepulciano", "Brunello di Montalcino", "Chianti" and many others, isn't it?

But, what do they have in common? what is their secret?

yes, I'm honored to present you, for the second time in this wine-blog, (trumpet breath) the "sanguis Jovis"... "the blood of Jove"... the legendary "San Giovese" grape (standing ovation).

In Tuscany, no less than 25 kind of "DOC" wines (DOC means "Denominazione di Origine Controllata" - mark guaranteeing the quality of a wine), require Sangiovese as the main grape variety in the blend.

I love "San Giovese" grape and his talented and muscle brother "San Giovese Grosso" grape.

Now I'm here to introduce you one of the 10 best wines of the world nominated by Mr. Robert Parker (Wine Spectator's Top 100):

Flaccianello della Pieve 2006 by Fontodi

Grapes selected from the best vineyards, fermentation malolactic in barrels and a 18 months of peaceful sleep in new Troncais and Allier barrels.

A masterclass wine, deep, dark, great nose, red-cherry, blackberry, vanilla, plum and with an unforgetable intense long long finish.

Really, one of my favourite, an amazing San Giovese in purity, a milestone wine from a rare talended wine-maker.

I can't wait to taste it next time!
