Collio Rosso by Borgo Del Tiglio - an unmissable masterstroke wine!

"Al vin bón no ghe serve frasca."

this Friulan proverb says that: "Quality doesn't need publicity to be recognized.".

Hi there,

Today we're going to put on some protective clothing and go into one of the most poetic regions of Italy:

Friuli Venezia Giulia!

This region is located in the "far"north-east of my country and borders Slovenia on the east and Austria to the north. Friuli Venezia Giulia has a really great wine tradition legacy and the Friulan people treat wine with a lot of care. I love that.

White wines in Friuli Venezia Giulia represent 85% of regional production. Here some of the best and most flowery white wines of the world like the Tocai Friulano are produced, followed by Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Bianco, and Chardonnay.

The Friulan red wines, based on "the international" Cabernet and Merlot, match the reds of the French Loire Valley.

One of my favourite grapes, the Merlot, grow up here with really unique character.

Today I'm introducing you to a real gemstone wine produced by Mr. Nicola Manferrari, owner of the wine-house "Borgo Del Tiglio" in Cormons:

"Collio Rosso 2003"

Based on a selection of amazing Merlot grapes, this wine emits power with a sensible elegance. Velvet, with a great body, impenetrable ruby red with a lot of spice scents at the nose and hints of plums, black fruit on the palate and an easy touch of vanilla at the end.

One of the best red wines I've ever tasted in my life.

I've tried also the 2003 Reserva but, in my opinion, the "Collio Rosso 2003" is still better than the Reserva... a typical example of "when the pupil surpasses the master" :).

Hey guys, we're talking about of one of the best wines in the world, no joke!

Suggested retail price: 30-40 € - due to the low production volume this wine is not so simple to find, I suggest you buy it directly on the internet, while keeping a watchful eye on those prices.

Your palate will be grateful to you.

I'll be right back,

Angelo D'Alessandro
