Collio Rosso by Borgo Del Tiglio - an unmissable masterstroke wine!

"Al vin bón no ghe serve frasca."

this Friulan proverb says that: "Quality doesn't need publicity to be recognized.".

Hi there,

Today we're going to put on some protective clothing and go into one of the most poetic regions of Italy:

Friuli Venezia Giulia!

This region is located in the "far"north-east of my country and borders Slovenia on the east and Austria to the north. Friuli Venezia Giulia has a really great wine tradition legacy and the Friulan people treat wine with a lot of care. I love that.

White wines in Friuli Venezia Giulia represent 85% of regional production. Here some of the best and most flowery white wines of the world like the Tocai Friulano are produced, followed by Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Bianco, and Chardonnay.

The Friulan red wines, based on "the international" Cabernet and Merlot, match the reds of the French Loire Valley.

One of my favourite grapes, the Merlot, grow up here with really unique character.

Today I'm introducing you to a real gemstone wine produced by Mr. Nicola Manferrari, owner of the wine-house "Borgo Del Tiglio" in Cormons:

"Collio Rosso 2003"

Based on a selection of amazing Merlot grapes, this wine emits power with a sensible elegance. Velvet, with a great body, impenetrable ruby red with a lot of spice scents at the nose and hints of plums, black fruit on the palate and an easy touch of vanilla at the end.

One of the best red wines I've ever tasted in my life.

I've tried also the 2003 Reserva but, in my opinion, the "Collio Rosso 2003" is still better than the Reserva... a typical example of "when the pupil surpasses the master" :).

Hey guys, we're talking about of one of the best wines in the world, no joke!

Suggested retail price: 30-40 € - due to the low production volume this wine is not so simple to find, I suggest you buy it directly on the internet, while keeping a watchful eye on those prices.

Your palate will be grateful to you.

I'll be right back,

Grappa Triè by Villa De Varda - a precious golden nectar!

Dr. Luigi Dolzan has no doubts: in his opinion, grappa is the best distillate in the world and he is so sure about the superior quality of the grappa produced with his method that he is ready to sign each bottle as he feels completely responsible for it.

and I totally agree with Mr. Dolzan.

Dear Wine Lovers,

Yes, this is a "Wines Blog", I know guys, but today I have to make an exception to the rule cause I absolutely tell you about one of the best product I've ever tasted in my Wine-Lovers-Life: "Grappa Triè by Villa De Varda".

Italian Grappa is a famous distillate, produced with the fermentantion of the grape marc, with about 40% Alcohol Volume.

Some young people don't like Grappa cause they have a distorted opinion of it. With this product I aim to change the sceptic's idea, I'm talking about a really unique and rare product.

Forget all your last experiences with Grappa, please reset your self and restart from this...

I've tasted many kinds of Grappa, many selections and many aged products with binding prices; about one month ago, Davide, a great friend of mine, gave me a bottle of "Grappa Triè by Villa De Varda" as a gift. At that moment of course I really appreciated Davide's endearment but I had no idea what kind of nectar was hiding itself inside that bottle.

Grappa Triè Villa De Varda is produced, at the foot of the amazing Dolomiti mountains, by the Dolzan Family with a brilliant distilling method called "De Varda Method".

When I tasted the "Grappa Triè" for the first time it was a resounding experience.

It's golden colour and it's warm and fruity inkling made me confused: "is this a Grappa or an aged 20+ years single malt?"

A rich and sweety flavour and a new discovery in each sip. Really an unbelivable experience.

What I'm trying to say is : "OK, I've tasted only one real Grappa in my life, Grappa Triè by Villa De Varda".

I suggest you to visit the official website and I wish you to make an experience like mine:

I've just ordered some bottles via e-mail and I'd speak directly with Mr. Mauro Dolzan, a man with genuine kindness, helpful and with a strong passion for his job.

You can't lose, enjoy yourself and stay tuned!

Merlot by Planeta... a ruby red dream!

Dear Wine Lovers,

I was born in Milano, I know, but today I'd like to swan-dive into the heart of my family origins, the wonderful island of Sicily .

Some people relate the word "Sicily" solely to the one and only "Nero D'Avola" grape.

I love the "Nero D'Avola" grape for sure, but in Sicily we have a lot of others grape varieties, native and international; the soil of the "Kingdom of Sicily" has been trod on by Greeks, Romans, Arabians, Normans and many others... and that soil, now, is one of the richest in the world.

Associating Sicily only with Nero D'Avola grape is the same mistake foreigners make when they first meet us Italians... "Hey? are you from Italy? oh, yes, right... Pope? Spaghetti? Nice! Lasagni? Tarantell yeee!"

Isn't that pathetic?

Anyway, thanks to the sun, the island's earth and obviously to God, the Sicilian wine-businessmen are carving out an incredible increase in the wine-business industry. They are reaching some record-results in terms of quantity, quality and world celebrity. I Love that.

One of my favourite Sicilian grapes is the "Nerello Mascalese" and I'll get to that in one of the next reviews.

Today the focus is on one of the best wine-producer of the Sicily, the Planeta family.

Planeta is one of the biggest wine-manufacturers of the region, they have a lot of property all over the Sicily and accurately state on their website: "Planeta is a journey through Sicily. A journey from east to west".

I love the Planeta's wine lines, they are adaptable to any kind of situation, they are "romantic", fascinating and above all modern.

One of my favourite Planeta wines is the international "Merlot", 100% amazing and juicy. I've recently tasted a 2005 and went crazy for it. Dark, powerful and with a ruby dream colour that you'll never forget. Tasting this wine you'll sense hints of blackberry fruit, vanilla, chocolate, licorice and all the mineral notes that make a good Sicilian wine like this unique and unmatched.

I hope you find a bottle and try it as soon as possibile, you'll have a coast-to-coast journey of one of the best regions in the world, my lovely and wonderful Sicily.

You'll lose yourself in this glass, enjoy!.

Marina Cvetic Montepulciano D'Abruzzo by Masciarelli - When you're drinking, when you're drinking, the show looks good to you... (Dean Martin)

Welcome back dear Wine Lovers, did you have a nice break?

Eat a lot? Drink too much?

I absolutely have to start a diet program starting... tomorrow.....;-)?

I'd like to begin this New Year with a sexy wine named "Marina Cvetic - Montepulciano D'Abruzzo".

This wine is produced by one of my favourite winemakers of all time: "Azienda Agricola Masciarelli".

They are famous for their magic "Villa Gemma", another Montepulciano wine, which I'll get to in the not-too-distant future.

The "Marina Cvetic" is not the baby of this particular family of wines, simply another "line" of products.

I suggest you to try this wine especially if you're a person that doesn't drink often as it's a great "entry-level" wine to introduce you to other fabulous "great wines world".

I'd like to compare this wine to a middle-aged man, mature but with agility, intensity and complexity.

At the nose this wine is really flowery and spicy and at the end of the bottle you'll want a little bit more... and more... and more.

I enjoyed a magnum of Marina Cvetic Montepulciano D'Abruzzo last week, with my best friend, and it unfolded another amazing and unforgettable night for us.

Cheers and all the best wishes for the New Year.

Go on, enjoy!
